Digital Radiography (DR)
Cave Inspection Uses Digital Radiography to obtain extremely clear images of cross section of components. This permanent digital image serves as a chronological record of the specimen and can be stored, accessed and compared easily. DR can be used to monitor pitting or corrosion through shadow shots. It eliminates the need to remove insulation and gives the user a clear image of any corrosion or erosion under insulated components.
Advantages
Permanent digital record easily accessible for future comparisons
Easy examination of insulted component
Allows personnel from remote locations to view data
Ability to monitor operational condition of valves
Quicker than conventional radiographic film
Ability to view multiple components in the same image
Image can be magnified, brightness and contrast can be adjusted making viewing easy.
Can measure dimensions and calculate remaining wall thickness
Limitations
Access to both side is required.
Component must be under 2.5” thick
CNSC rules must be adhered to while performing radiography. Large areas may need to be evacuated while performing inspection.
